Things I’m Loving Lately #2

21 Nov

Happy Friday! Geez, this week was crazy, crazy, crazy and it certainly flew by for me! I am in disbelief that Thanksgiving is less than a week away and with that, there has been a lot going on so I haven’t had a chance to sit down and write this week. But I’ve had a few things on my mind lately that I have been loving so I thought today would be the perfect time to share with you guys!

  • Wedding planning: The wedding planning is in full swing and we have gotten quite a few things checked off of our list. This past Sunday I went bridesmaid dress shopping with most of my ladies (we missed you, Sam!) and I think everyone got a pretty good idea of what they are going to get (I’m doing same color/length but different styles). Since that was such a success I decided that night was the perfect time to order our save the dates! After quite a bit of work (thank you Alex and Carlee!) we decided on a magnet design that we absolutely love from Vistaprint and the great news is that not only were they very affordable, they have already arrived! I will definitely be using Vistaprint again for things like Christmas cards in the future.
  • 19 Kids & Counting: I was never really into this show until this year but I think this family is absolutely hilarious. Now I will be the first to say that I do not agree with many of their views (some that have recently been in the news) but I think they are so much fun to watch. My favorite moment so far would have to be Ben’s proposal to Jessa which was SO romantic and beautiful.
Freaking hilarious!

  • Adriatiks Restaurant: This is a cute little Italian/Greek restaurant right down the street from our apartment. We had been meaning to try this place forever and the other night I didn’t feel like cooking so we ordered takeout. I had been craving a gyro and I ended up getting the Chicken Souvlaki which is basically a chicken gyro (I’m not a fan of lamb) and it was AMAZING. It certainly fulfilled my craving and I can’t wait to eat there again. Dan had a Chicken Parm grinder and he said was very flavorful as well.
There was not one single French fry left standing ;)

  • My recent workouts: Although I definitely agree with Caitlin’s post from yesterday in that I feel like I haven’t been going to the gym as much I want to. However, I really feel that the workouts I am fitting in have been quality ones. This week I have been a big fan of varying things so I’ve been combining the treadmill, elliptical, and some weights. I am finally starting to see what people say about weight-lifting burning a lot of fat because I feel like that is making the most difference although I really enjoy my cardio so I won’t be giving that up anytime soon.
I definitely left the gym tired after this one!

Alright, that is all I have for you guys today! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend 🙂

Weekend Getaway to Newport, RI: Part Two

14 Nov

Happy Friday! I’m excited to share with you guys the rest of our trip to Newport. It seems like we fit in SO much stuff in a little bit of time (my usual style).

After we had checked into our hotel, we got ready for dinner and headed over to The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & Bar for dinner. Neither of us were extremely hungry so we decided to just split a few appetizers. I started off with a Newport Storm Hurricane Amber Ale which was very refreshing and not as heavy as I thought it would be.

As for the food, we wanted ALL the seafood on that particular evening. We ordered the clam chowder which was so creamy and full of huge chunks of clam. I never order clam chowder but I knew I had to try it since we were right on the ocean.

Bowl of creamy deliciousness

We also had the Bag of Doughnuts and those were my absolute favorite. They were huge seafood fritters with a lot of seafood and very little breading which isn’t something you get very often.

That sauce on the side was heavenly

We also shared the Surf and Turf sliders which were steak sliders topped with lobster meat so obviously those were perfection and I wish we had more of those because two were definitely not enough.

The presentation was amazing

After dinner, it was still pretty early so we headed over to Brick Alley Pub to watch some football and have a drink. Dan went with Yuengling and I was craving something salty so I decided on a dirty martini which was SO good.

Those olives though :)

There was also a hilarious sign in the bathroom that I HAD to share with you guys.

Hilarious

We headed back to the hotel to catch up on some of our TV shows on my laptop and get a good night’s sleep which was VERY needed after a crazy weekend. I woke up very refreshed the next day and couldn’t wait to explore more of Newport. We started our day by sitting outside on the grounds of our hotel for a little while which was so peaceful and beautiful.

It was the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed at.

It was still a little early for lunch so I went to another spot that Caitlin had recommended, Keen-Wah Superfood Eatery. After the martini and the beer the night before, I was craving some green juice. I had the Green Lemonade and I drank it SO fast because it was amazing. We also had to try the deviled eggs because hello, name of this blog, and they are my favorite.

I'm going to try to replicate this at home - romaine lettuce, green apples, and lemon, SO easy

We walked around and did a little bit of shopping, mostly Christmas related, before deciding we couldn’t wait any longer for lunch. We headed back over to Brick Alley Pub and our experience was nothing short of amazing. We started with the nachos which several people had recommended to us and they were perfect, with so much cheese and a lot of jalapeños which Dan was very excited about.

There were chips buried under all that, I promise

I had the Lobster Reuben which was pure genius because who even thinks of something that amazing? Dan had the Corned Beef Reuben. Both of our sandwiches were SO stuffed and so tasty. I can’t wait to go back there because there are about ten different things I want to try.

SO much lobster!

We did a little bit more shopping and then we ended our day with a trip to Newport Storm Brewery. Dan had never been to a brewery before he was very excited. We had such a great time and I can honestly say that I enjoyed every single beer that I tried. My favorite was definitely the Winter Porter because I really enjoy a nice winter beer.

I was obsessed with these glasses, and we got to take them home!

It was a perfect end to our trip to Newport and I’m so glad I was able to share it with you guys!

Weekend Getaway to Newport, RI: Part One

13 Nov

This past weekend, Dan and I (and Alex for one day) went to Newport, RI for a little getaway. It was relatively inexpensive since it was the offseason and it is probably our last little vacation until our honeymoon (CRAZY!). We left pretty early Sunday morning so that we would be able to make the most of the day.

Once we arrived in Newport, we parked (for free – yay!) and walked over to Diego’s for brunch. I’m going to give a disclaimer up front that the recommendations for almost all of the restaurants we visited came from Caitlin’s blog because she has the best taste and we like a lot of the same foods.

Diego’s is an adorable little restaurant and they have $5 brunch specials on Saturdays and Sundays as long as you order a cocktail. I had the Diego’s Huevos which were out of this world amazing. The runny eggs mixed with the beans and avocado were perfect.

For our cocktails, Dan and I both ordered the Holy Habanero Bloody which was not as spicy as we expected but that was a good thing since we were able to enjoy the beverage that much more. We also started with an order of guacamole which was so fresh and delicious.

Their presentation was awesome

After brunch, we took about a one mile stroll over to the Cliff Walk. We walked part of the cliff walk and then toured the Breakers mansion which was very interesting and informative. We took a much longer walk back into town (ugh) where we did some shopping before heading over to Newport Vineyards for a wine tasting. Their wines are all so amazing and it was hard to decide on just one to purchase but I ended up taking home two bottles of Great White which is a sweeter white wine that is also very affordable at only $11.50 for a bottle.

Another place that had been recommended very highly by Caitlin was Marylou’s coffee. Although it was a little odd to get coffee after a wine tasting, it was nearby and we went. I had the mint chocolate cookie coffee and it changed my life. I wish we had a Marylou’s here because I would go there every single day.

I most definitely snapchatted this to Cait :)

We said our goodbyes to Alex who had to go home and Dan and I headed over to our hotel to check in. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Newport on Goat Island which was probably one of the fanciest hotels we will ever stay in but we got it for only $70 for the night since it is the offseason. We relaxed and explored the hotel for a bit (duh, because fancy) and then got ready for dinner. I’m going to leave off here for now to leave you guys in suspense (ha). Part two will be up tomorrow so I can share the rest of the trip 🙂

WIAW: Pond House Grille

12 Nov

Happy Wednesday! Last Friday, myself, Dan, his niece, and his parents were invited to Pond House Grille for dinner in hopes of choosing our rehearsal dinner location. I’m very happy to report that it looks like we will be having our rehearsal dinner there as we had such a lovely evening and it was very easy to picture having a special night there.

We were promptly seated and our drink orders were taken by our attentive waitress. I chose The Pond House Infusion which included infused rum, ginger liqueur, pomegranate liqueur, and white cranberry juice. It was strong yet smooth and I find that I am enjoying different types of infusions more and more.

Next we were served some amazing bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, which was presented in such an adorable way. We then ordered an appetizer of calamari which came with a tasty sweet chili sauce which I definitely ended up dipping my Brussels sprouts in later in the evening.

Cutest presentation ever!

For my entrée, I went with something I wouldn’t normally order but that I have always wanted to try, the Slow Braised Short Rib. I was nervous that it would be overcooked and too tough but it was melt in your mouth tender. The star of the show was actually the honey goat cheese and fig mac & cheese which was paired with the short rib. I would eat this every single day of my life. It was creamy and sweet but the tang of the goat cheese was very present as well. I obviously got a side of Brussels Sprouts as well which were cooked to perfection.

We ended the evening with an aromatherapy course which is very hard to explain but it was something I would definitely love to do again.

The waitress had informed us early in the evening that Pond House has a new head chef and that was definitely apparent because there was a fresh, new spin on each dish. Dan and his parents were very pleased with the meal and the service and we are all looking forward to hopefully having the rehearsal dinner there. Thank you to our waitress and the rest of the staff for ensuring that a fabulous evening was had by us all.

Friday’s Random Thoughts

7 Nov

Happy Friday all! This is a four day weekend for me so to say that I’m excited is an understatement. I have seen a few other bloggers using their Fridays to share their random thoughts and since rambling is something I am VERY good at, I figured I would try it out.

1. Our dinners this week have been very delicious but healthy at the same time. I have managed to have a salad with dinner every single night this week and my new obsession is a salsa/plain greek yogurt dressing.

Naturally I topped this salad with an egg, loving that protein!

My amazing man surprised me with a sunny side up pizza with Brussels from Krust :)

2. My workouts have been successful although the times have been all over the place. There were two days this week when I woke up at 4:30 with Dan and went to the gym with him and the three other days, I worked out no earlier than 9:30 at night. But I’m happy that I was able to find time to exercise every single day.

This is absolutely the truth

3. I was SO pumped to hear about Target‘s free shipping for the holidays. Also, I am just as excited that the postal service will be doing Sunday delivery during the holidays as well because I LOVE getting mail (I’m aware its an odd obsession). I will definitely be doing more online shopping this year.

The whole free shipping thing makes me think that I really do need this jacket. Source

4. Fall TV is getting so crazy! Almost all of our shows are leading up to their winter hiatus so it seems like every episode has a cliffhanger or some dramatic turn of events.

This entire show feels like a cliffhanger

5. I am thinking about trying out Stitch Fix for a month or two. I have read some positive and negative reviews from other bloggers and I’m intrigued enough to possibly give it a try.

6. The iPhone 6 has been such an awesome upgrade for me from the 4s. It really isn’t as big as most people think although it did take some getting used to but I love it!

There are no words for how perfect this is.

7. Dan and I are taking an overnight trip to Newport, RI this weekend (hence the four day weekend for me). We are going Sunday to Monday and I could not be more excited. I have only been to Newport once which was this past summer and I’m excited to go back and get the full experience.

I hope you guys have a fabulous weekend!
