Thanksgiving Weekend Recap

30 Nov

Happy Wednesday! What a crazy week back at work it has been, but I can’t believe it’s already almost halfway done! I’m definitely reveling in my Christmas glory right now and soaking up every single second of holiday cheer. I figured I would do a brief “sentence per picture” type of recap to catch up on what we did this past weekend.

Wednesday night consisted of lots of wine and laughter with the ladies and gents.

pre-thanksgiving-2016

Our contribution to my Grandma’s Thanksgiving feast was this glorious baked pumpkin mac and cheese with roasted brussels sprouts.

The turkey was perfection as usual.

Naturally we ate alllll the food and loved every single bite.

Christmas card photos were taken. (PS. my dress and boots are from Old Navy)

Aunt Beth’s cheesecake looked absolutely incredible. Sad to say, I didn’t have any as my survival tactic for three Thanksgiving dinners was skipping dessert 😦

We actually took the time out to make breakfast on Sunday morning! Well it was almost noon but brunch is just as good 😉

I used up our turkey leftovers to make some turkey and corn chowder on Sunday night. Last night I also made my first attempt at turkey pot pie and according to the hubby, it was a hit!

That’s all for today folks! I’m attending a fun blogger event tomorrow evening so I will be back in the near future to recap that. Have a great rest of your week!

House Update: Kitchen Renovation is Complete!

10 Nov

I hope you guys are all having a wonderful week! I have been wanting to write this post for a long time but I didn’t have the time to take the pictures and get my thoughts together. After six long months of hard work by my amazing husband (with some help from me), our kitchen is finally pretty much finished! The only things left to do are paint the other two window frames and get a new light fixture (which is why I’m not showing you the kitchen table area). I’m going to show you some before pictures (from the listing) and then the after photos.

First I will give you a brief rundown of what we did:

It was not easy by any means and it took a lot longer than we expected because life doesn’t stop during a renovation. All of the labor was done by us and Dan had a lot of help with the floor from my Dad and my aunt’s fiance Jorge for which we are so grateful. Many other friends and family members helped out throughout the process as well and we are so lucky to have such incredible people in our lives. We are so incredibly happy with the end result and it was definitely worth all of the hard work.

I will preface these pictures with a bit of background information; our stove is a Frigidaire Flair electric range and it is original to the home being built in 1952 and it works like a dream. It was actually the stove that was on the show Bewitched in Samantha’s kitchen! I wasn’t too sure about it at first but it is so unique and has become such a conversation piece.

Thank you to Brian and Natasha for the wonderful new trash can and to Dave and Melissa for the adorable wine holder!

As you can see, quite the transformation has taken place! This has definitely been the most fun post to write as we are so proud of the results. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any questions at all, ask away!

Marvelous Monday: Laying Low

7 Nov

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend filled with as much activity or relaxation as you desired. For the first time in what seems like a year, we laid low for the majority of the weekend, or at least what feels like laying low to us 😉

Thank you as always to Katie for hosting!

Marvelous is… happy hour and dinner at Birch Hill Tavern on Friday evening. Birch Hill is basically right next to our house and I knew I didn’t want to cook since our kitchen was fully clean for the first time since our housewarming party so we split two apps (the prosciutto & fig flatbread and the brussels sprouts) and a burger (the Rex burger). It was quick, easy and allowed us to be home in time to watch the UConn football game aka the biggest disaster ever.

Marvelous is… I found this recipe for the BEST red wine brownies and baked them on Saturday afternoon. Yes, red wine brownies. Make them NOW. You will not be disappointed.

Marvelous is… a surprise birthday party at Silver Lane bowling alley for our friend Kody’s birthday. There were tons of awesome people there, pitchers of beer, and the bowling alley pizza that has always had my heart.

Marvelous is… meal prepping on Sunday afternoon. I have really been trying to make an effort to prep as much food as possible for the week since we are both so busy and eating healthy is a priority for us. I made our lunches which are a chicken quesadillas with greek yogurt for dipping and a side of roasted spaghetti squash. I also roasted a butternut squash to have as a side for some of our dinners.

Marvelous is… a Sunday afternoon and evening filled with football, snacks, and pot roast for dinner. I also was able to get some blogging done (hence this post) and it just felt good to relax and do exactly what I felt like doing.

That was our weekend in a nutshell and I’m feeling quite prepared for this week. Since I finally had some time to blog, look out for some more posts this week as we have a lot of catching up to do!

Fashion Friday: Favorite Birchbox Products

6 Nov

Happy Friday all! Today I wanted to mix things up a bit and share some of my favorite products that I have received from Birchbox. Birchbox is a subscription service which costs $10 per month and each month they send you five samples of different make-up, hair or skin care products. Before your first box, you fill out a profile so they can get to know you and send products that you are looking for. Also, if you find a product that you love, you can purchase it directly from the Birchbox website. It’s a nice little treat each month and I always look forward to seeing the new products that I get to try!

  • Benefit Hoola Bronzer

I have always been a big fan of Benefit makeup and a lot of products that I regularly use are from them so I wasn’t surprised at all when I loved this bronzer. It was my first time using bronzer and I really like the subtle glow that it provides.

  • Balance Me Radiance Face Mask

I rarely have the time to sit down and put on a face mask but I absolutely love this one. It doesn’t seem to dry out my skin like some other masks I have tried and I love how soft my skin is after I rinse it off.

  • Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator

A few months ago we celebrated my best friend Melissa’s bachelorette party at a local spa and the woman who did my facial asked me how often I exfoliate and my answer was hardly ever. She told me it would help to balance out my combination skin and provide a glow as well. I received this in my Birchbox shortly after and its amazing. It is very gentle but definitely gets the job done. I use it twice a week which is why I have been fortunate enough to have the sample last so long.

  • Coola Natural BB Cream

I had never used a BB cream before but I have definitely fallen in love with this one. I don’t use it very often because my makeup routine is pretty quick most days but it goes on very light and provides a subtle tint with a matte finish which is great. It also doubles as a sunscreen with SPF 30 which I also need to use more.

  • Cynthia Rowley Eyeliner in Black

This product came to me in one of my most recent boxes and it was perfect timing since my favorite liquid eyeliner from Victoria’s Secret was running out and was also discontinued. I had only used liquid eyeliner in the past and wasn’t a huge fan of the crayon but this one goes on so smoothly and it is very hard to mess it up. I am almost out of this sample as I use it every day and I will definitely be purchasing it in the coming weeks.

  • BONUS! Dan’s Favorite: Naobay Oxygenating Moisturizing Cream

Dan has very sensitive (and at times, dry) skin and one day he had asked me if I had any moisturizers which did not smell “girly”. I hadn’t used this one yet but I gave it to him to try as it has virtually no scent and is organic as well. He has been using it ever since whenever his skin has any dryness or redness. They don’t have it available right now on the Birchbox website, but I will be keeping a lookout so I can purchase a full size version for him.

This post was not sponsored in any way, I just really wanted to share some of my favorites with you guys! Please let me know if you have any questions about any of the products or Birchbox in general.

Have a great weekend!
