Monday Coffee Date # 2

24 Apr

Happy Monday! I haven’t done one of these in quite a while and my thoughts are pretty random today so I figured it was the perfect day for a coffee date! I also have coffee on the brain since I decided to buy a big bag of the Pecan Turtle coffee from my favorite spot, Daybreak, and last night we brewed a big batch of iced coffee for the week. I hope you all had a great weekend and that you had some sunshine for at least part of it like we did.

If we were having a coffee date, I would tell you… grilling season has officially begun and I’m loving it! We had cheeseburgers last weekend and steak on another night last week. I feel like I’ve been in somewhat of a meal planning rut and being able to grill again will definitely help get me out of that.

If we were having a coffee date, I would tell you… sunshine is everything to me right now. As corny as it sounds, I am just loving the beautiful days when we have them. Saturday was kind of gloomy but we still spent it outside at Olde Burnside Brewery with a group of friends followed by dinner and a movie at our house. It was a perfect day!

This is most definitely true.

If we were having a coffee date, I would tell you… active rest days are my jam. I made it to boot camp four times last week and I was feeling a bit tired and in need of rest. I took Saturday completely off and yesterday I thought about going to boot camp but I decided to go for a long walk around the center of town. It was just what I needed and I feel very well rested today but not like I spent all weekend lounging around. I also enjoyed my first homemade smoothie of the season which was refreshing and fueled my long walk well.

Slow and steady wins the race 😉

If we were having a coffee date, I would tell you… I do not have a green thumb but I’m thankful that my husband does 🙂 A month or so ago, I planted a bunch of seeds indoors and yesterday, Dan transplanted them outside. I helped with the cleanup of some of the bushes and did some raking but he knew the best way to plant the plants themselves. Thanks hubby!

beer and gardening

You can’t garden without enjoying a beer, am I right? 😉

If we were having a coffee date, I would tell you… I killed it on the grocery shopping front this week. I had a bunch of coupons and there were some great deals. I usually don’t buy much meat as it can get expensive but with such good deals, I was able to stock up on a bunch of different things. I rewarded myself with a sub from Subway for which I also had a coupon! #winning

That’s all for today! I hope you all have a wonderful start to your week 🙂

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

Do you enjoy gardening?

Christmas Home Decor Tour

22 Dec

Happy Thursday! I can’t believe that Christmas is only 3 short days away. I’m soaking up every single second of Christmas cheer that I possibly can (Dan can attest to that) which is why I have been a bit absent although we have also been insanely busy as well. Today I’m sharing what is probably my favorite post of the year, our Christmas home decor tour. It’s even more special than usual since it is our first Christmas in our new home.

I used a lot of decor that we already had but I have definitely mixed in some new pieces because we have a lot more space to work with. We also have two trees, a real one in our upstairs living room and an artificial one in our basement. This way we can embrace the Christmas spirit regardless of where we are hanging out. I’m sharing a picture of two outdoor decor items, our HUGE Santa and our beautiful wreath that our friend Kylia made but we also have multi-color lights all around the roof line of the house, but they are acting up some nights so I haven’t been able to get a great picture.

Santa says hi!

I got that garland at Christmas Tree Shop for only $7.99! It’s one of my favorite pieces of decor.

I took a lot of pictures of our tree, during different times of the day/night. This is the real tree that we got at Glastonbury Fire Department’s Company 4 Firehouse.

Bella loves this blanket that I picked up this year from TJ Maxx.

I’m obsessed with the above Santa lamp that I got at Christmas Tree Shop! It reminds me of some of the classic pieces that my Grandma has.

As you can see, I took these a while ago but have been SO busy!

I built the above kitchen table centerpiece all with items I found at Michael’s. It was so much fun to come up with a vision and put it together!

I mean, how could I not get this?

I thought I would end it with a shot of our artificial tree downstairs. Although I am impartial to a real tree, I adore the way that this one lights up our sometimes dark basement.

I intend to be back tomorrow with another post with some last minute festive things. In the event that doesn’t happen, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas! Dan and I both have next week off so I hope to have some time for writing.

House Update: Kitchen Renovation is Complete!

10 Nov

I hope you guys are all having a wonderful week! I have been wanting to write this post for a long time but I didn’t have the time to take the pictures and get my thoughts together. After six long months of hard work by my amazing husband (with some help from me), our kitchen is finally pretty much finished! The only things left to do are paint the other two window frames and get a new light fixture (which is why I’m not showing you the kitchen table area). I’m going to show you some before pictures (from the listing) and then the after photos.

First I will give you a brief rundown of what we did:

It was not easy by any means and it took a lot longer than we expected because life doesn’t stop during a renovation. All of the labor was done by us and Dan had a lot of help with the floor from my Dad and my aunt’s fiance Jorge for which we are so grateful. Many other friends and family members helped out throughout the process as well and we are so lucky to have such incredible people in our lives. We are so incredibly happy with the end result and it was definitely worth all of the hard work.

I will preface these pictures with a bit of background information; our stove is a Frigidaire Flair electric range and it is original to the home being built in 1952 and it works like a dream. It was actually the stove that was on the show Bewitched in Samantha’s kitchen! I wasn’t too sure about it at first but it is so unique and has become such a conversation piece.

Pillows: TJ Maxx. Rug: Christmas Tree Shop.

Thank you to Brian and Natasha for the wonderful new trash can and to Dave and Melissa for the adorable wine holder!

As you can see, quite the transformation has taken place! This has definitely been the most fun post to write as we are so proud of the results. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any questions at all, ask away!

Home Sweet Home

22 Jul

Happy Friday! I hope you guys have had a wonderful week. Mine was certainly better than last week and I’m looking forward to a long weekend filled with friends, fun, and maybe a little bit of wine (who am I kidding? A LOT of wine 😉 ). I’m taking Monday off as a “me” day and I’m really looking forward to it. I feel like sometimes it is absolutely imperative to take some time to unwind and not let yourself get burned out. Anyone else agree?

Today I’m finally sharing a house update that I’ve been thinking about for a long while. We have done a lot of work so far and I’m really excited to share it with you.

Let’s start with a little bit of the outside, although we really haven’t done much out there yet, but we have added a nice hanging plant, a patriotic sign, a fire hydrant from NYC, and Dan also trimmed the bushes as well.

My home office is more or less finished as well. We painted, added bunk beds from my childhood bedroom, and a desk.

We used Benjamin Moore’s “Normandy” blue for the accent wall and a cream color for the other three walls.

Our guest bedroom is now fully furnished with a queen sized bed, nightstand, dresser, and our armoire. Dan also installed a ceiling fan which adds a nice touch to the room. That room is one of the last which needs to be painted/decorated although I haven’t fully decided on a color yet.

Bella loves sleeping on that bed. (Comforter set: Macy’s)

Guest room 2

“Mom, no more pictures please!”

As far as the living room goes, we finally hung pictures and added some decor throughout the room which gives it much homier of a feel. We have a few more pictures to hang but for the most part, the living room is done.

TV Stand 1

Most of the decor on the TV stand is from TJ Maxx and I think I spent less than $20 total on it!

These were Christmas presents from our friends Carlee and Justin & Kaitlin and Quentin 🙂

Gallery wall

I am obsessed with gallery walls!

Well there you have it! We have definitely gotten a lot done but there’s quite a bit more to do, mainly with the kitchen and the yard. For the kitchen, Dan is in the process of priming and painting the cabinets and then we will start the floor and have the new counter top installed. The yard is not horrible right now but definitely needs to be cleaned up. I will share another update in the future, probably once the cabinets are done being painted.

I hope you guys have a great weekend! Stay cool, it’s going to be a hot one 🙂

Life Lately

28 Apr

Happy Thursday guys! I hope you’re all having an excellent week. Mine has been a little hectic as softball has officially begun and we are desperately trying not to fall behind on the house stuff but I’m plugging along. Today I figured I would share a mishmash of different things including some recent eats and a couple of house updates!

I have been loving taking walks lately, both long and short, at home and on lunch at work. The neighborhood that we moved to has some killer hills and I’ve locked down a great 3-mile route that really does a number on my legs. I’m also enjoying my early morning walks in the center of town when I’m working from home and on the weekends too!

morning walk 2

This morning’s 7am walk.. Complete with a Daybreak nonfat blanc

We have been eating out quite a bit due to the house still being in the unpacking/pre-kitchen remodel stage but we have been using our grill and crockpot quite a bit and sandwiches have been a frequent occurrence. Luckily our eating out has been supplemented with gift cards that I’ve hoarded for a while and coupons so it really hasn’t been too expensive. Breakfasts and lunches have been consistently made at home which is good.

Today’s breakfast: PB, banana & raspberry spread with a side of cantaloupe

Our couch has FINALLY arrived! It was on back order for a while but it was finally delivered this past Saturday morning and we love it! I’ve been picking up little decor items here and there (Homegoods, I love you) to work towards getting the living room finished. (couch purchased: here. Pillows: TJ Maxx. Tray: Hobby Lobby)

Our bedroom is basically finished with just a few paint touch-ups and some picture hanging left to go. I am absolutely obsessed with how it came out and I never want to get out of bed (but is that really different from ever before?). (Bed: here. Comforter set: Macy’s (no longer available). Curtains, Laundry baskets: TJ Maxx.)

I love our nightstands from Christmas Tree Shop!

I’m doing a new exercise program that our town is offering from now until the beginning of June. It’s called “Do a 180, Move!” and its provided by the Connecticut River Valley Chamber of Commerce. The program offers over 150 fitness classes at different gyms, yoga studios, etc in town. The classes offered range from spinning, yoga, boot camp, dance, tennis, running groups, swimming, walking and much more! For Glastonbury town residents who are non-members of the Chamber, the cost is only $40 and I’m already signed up for 12 of the classes. My first class is a boot camp tomorrow morning and I’m very excited!

That’s all I have for you guys today but stayed tuned for a recap soon of a fabulous event that I attended a couple of weeks ago at the always wonderful Rooftop 120. Have a wonderful rest of your week and weekend too!

Wordless Wednesday: BIG News!

16 Mar

The title of this post is basically incorrect because it will definitely have words because when you have big exciting news, words are the best way to share that news (duh). I know that many of you are friends with me on Facebook so you already know our big news but I’m still excited to share it!

Ignore my sun blindness 😉

This is the reason why I’ve been pretty absent as of late since life is out of control crazy and we have SO much going on. We love our house and can’t wait to finally move in as the hardwood floors are getting refinished right now and our big moving day will be the 26th so right now we are just buying the things we need and starting to (slowly) pack up our apartment. I will definitely have more to come on this and will share pictures of the house once we move stuff in. I’m going to keep this post short since my mind is all over the place but I want to share some random photos which I have collected on my phone over the past few weeks.
