Thinking Out Loud Thursday: I’m Back!

5 Nov

Hello everyone! It feels so good to finally have some time to write again after all of the wedding insanity as well as the trying to catch up after the wedding and honeymoon. (PS. I have a husband now!!!) I am going to be recapping the rehearsal dinner/wedding/honeymoon little by little, as not to bombard you guys with too much at one time. Today I’m going to recap the rehearsal dinner as well as touch on a few random thoughts inside of my head.

Our rehearsal dinner was nothing short of wonderful. My in-laws did an amazing job planning everything from the food down to the centerpieces on the tables. It was held at Tower Ridge Country Club in Simsbury, CT, which is the same spot as our wedding venue. It was perfect to be able to rehearse quickly and then just go right into relaxing with our closest family and friends. For anyone who has not taken part in a rehearsal, it is quite awkward and I was happy when that part was over, to be totally honest.

Each centerpiece had a cute little saying on it!

Each centerpiece had a cute little saying on it!

Dinner was all barbecue style food including my special request for potato salad (DUH). It was important to us that we had nothing which was like what we would be eating the next night at the wedding. The food was amazing and the room in which the dinner took place was gorgeous, with big windows overlooking the golf course.

After the dinner was over, most of us parted our separate ways, including myself and Dan which was definitely a tearful yet excited goodbye. My girls and I headed back to our hotel suite to spend the night hanging out together before the big day. It was so special to be able to spend time with all of my bridesmaids and just enjoy each others company. I gave them their “thank you” gifts which included matching robes (to wear the next day) ordered from Etsy (just search “bridesmaid robes”), a notepad (with their initials on it), bottle of wine, and birthstone earrings. They surprised me with a thoughtful scrapbook which they put together along with some adorable mason jar glasses. I also opening my wedding gift from Dan which was a Nikon Coolpix camera which I absolutely love (I gave him a watch which matched his tux perfectly). We broke out some wine, ordered some pizza and made mac and cheese, and just spent the night relaxing and chatting away. It was a perfect evening and such a good precursor to the wonderful wedding day ahead.

Back to reality, I have a few random thoughts to share with you guys as well.

I am loving the fall weather this year. In fact, it has been unseasonably warm the past few days and I am just itching for the chill in the air to return. Part of it may be due to the assortment of sweaters I recently purchased from Old Navy (oops), but I’m also excited for the Thanksgiving and Christmas festivities, as this is my favorite time of year!

I’m very proud of the fact that I have been able to jump right back into working out with high intensity after having a full two weeks off. I’m not going to say that I wasn’t a little out of shape after totally pigging out during the wedding and especially the honeymoon but I can’t even begin to tell you how good that first workout back felt. I’m happy to say that I am back in a routine of exercising about four times per week, mainly doing Jillian Michaels videos at home.

One thing that we cannot seem to catch up on, is the number of shows on our DVR which we need to watch. Even with the large amount of time which was freed up by not having to do wedding stuff, it still seems like the list of shows is never-ending. I refuse to drop any shows so it just seems like we will be playing catch up until the shows go on their winter hiatus for the holidays. I will say that we are absolutely loving the new show, Quantico, on ABC. It is so suspenseful and I am totally hooked!

Phew, that was a long post, but I hope you guys have enjoyed. I will be back next week with another wedding recap and hopefully a review or two! Have a happy Thursday!

Five Things Friday: Strength

25 Sep

Happy Friday! I can’t believe how long it has been since I last posted but as you can probably imagine, my life is consumed with wedding related tasks at this point so I’m happy to be able to find even a sliver of time to relax, let alone write anything that isn’t a to-do list 🙂 I figured I would share a few random things with you guys today.

The last details of the wedding plans are coming together and we should be doing pretty well after this weekend. The tasks on this weekend’s agenda include working on the centerpieces and the seating chart (EEK). Once the seating chart is done, I know that I will be feeling a lot better. I’m really excited for everything to be done and to marry this wonderful guy of mine!

Being so crazy busy and having so much on my plate has made me realize that I am a lot stronger and can handle a lot more than I thought I could. Without being too serious, I do think that most women (and really people in general) underestimate their overall strength and what they can truly handle. We are a lot stronger than we believe and when push comes to shove, can deal with a lot more than we think we can.

On a more fun note, we were able to find time to visit The Big E twice this week and we had a great time with some wonderful friends on both occasions and ate some fabulous food as well. It is truly one of my favorite places to go and I look forward to it every single year.

Since I have last written, two of our favorite couples have gotten engaged! We are so happy for both Cheyne and Miko, and Robbie and Jenna, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds! Last Friday, we had the four of them over for dinner to celebrate and it was so nice to be able to share in their happiness.

I’m very excited for all of the fall TV premieres of our favorite shows! I’m not exactly sure when we will have time to watch but I’m sure we can park ourselves in front of the TV while doing some wedding related task and I can’t wait for that!

True story.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I hope to be able to post again before the wedding at some point!

The Most Wonderful Weekend of All!

2 Sep

Happy hump day! This week is definitely flying by, as per usual! Only 38 days till the wedding and I have a lot on my plate, hence the lack of blogging over the last couple of weeks. Today I am probably the most excited I have ever been to share a post! I am sharing my bachelorette weekend with you guys and it was honestly the best weekend of my entire life. I have never felt so relaxed, loved, or pampered, and I owe it all to the amazing group of girls that provided all of that to me.

Friday:

I was picked up at home by Carlee, and Miko rode with us as well as the other girls had a head start to get some things ready. We arrived in Newport a little after 4:00 and our hotel room was decorated to the max with all kinds of fun and slightly inappropriate decorations which I loved 🙂 . We started things off with drinks and music right away (hello, Spiked Seltzer!) and took a bunch of pictures too. We were going to stay in that night but I was really eager to explore Newport so we spontaneously decided to head out to dinner at The Red Parrot which was very delicious. We headed out to a few bars afterwards as we were awaiting Kate and Sam’s arrivals and then we went back to the hotel to play some games and drink a little (or a lot) more. It was such a fun start to the weekend and definitely a precursor to the fun that was about to be had.

Saturday:

We woke up relatively early for being up very late and headed down to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich which definitely hit the spot. After that, we headed down to the pool where we enjoyed some sun and mimosas.

Pure bliss!

After a few hours at the pool, we headed back to the room to change so we could go spend the afternoon at a vineyard. This is where the only problem within the entire trip occurred. We had intended to go to Newport Vineyards as a few of us had been there before and loved it. However, we arrived to find that they did need a reservation for a group as large as ours which was understandable. We were disappointed but alright with that answer and ready to try another vineyard but we noticed they were taking couples and smaller groups as walk-ins so we politely asked if we could split up our group and go in pairs. The answer we received was a very rude no and they would not budge at all. It was a terrible experience and we were treated horribly by the manager who had no concept of good customer service skills. I don’t think any of us will be returning there after that experience. We left and headed over to Greenvale Vineyards where we had the complete opposite experience. The staff was wonderful and there was live music playing as well as a gorgeous view of the ocean. We enjoyed a private tasting and then settled in at a picnic table with some snacks and bottles to share. It was such a happy accident that we ended up there and I honestly can’t wait to return.

So many delicious wines!

We headed back to the hotel and got ready for a fun and fabulous night out. We started the evening with dinner at Brick Alley Pub which may be one of my favorite restaurants of all time. After that, per our wine tasting person Nishan’s recommendation, we headed to Dockside for some drinks and dancing. It was such a fun spot and exactly what we were looking for. After the bar closed, we took a taxi back to the hotel and ordered Domino’s on the way which was devoured as soon as we got back to the room. We stayed up very late chatting and I could not have had a better night!

Sunday:

The hotel check out was at 11:00 so it gave us a good excuse to get up and get in gear pretty early. We got ready and packed and headed down to the center of Newport. We went to brunch at Diego’s where I had Diego’s Huevos along with a fabulous cocktail.

At the end of brunch, Sam headed to take her Uber back to the airport and we definitely missed her but I can’t wait to see her again for the wedding! We spent the rest of the afternoon browsing all of the little shops in the center of Newport and ended the trip with a trip to Newport Creamery.

It was the perfect weekend and I can’t stop gushing enough about how much I love these girls and how great they are. I get overwhelmed with emotion every time I think about the weekend because it was just that special. Wordless Wednesday: My Bridal Shower

22 Jul

Happy hump day everyone! I know it’s been a while but I’ve been busier than ever (80 days until the wedding!) and I really spent a lot of time thinking about how I wanted to write this post. In reality, there are no words to describe what a magical day my bridal shower was and I came to the conclusion that it would be best to just show you guys in photograph form. I will tell you that my girls (and everyone else involved) did the most amazing job putting everything together and it was truly one of the best days of my entire life. I felt so special and I wish I could relive it a million times. So enough with the mushy stuff (although I could go on for hours) and let’s get to the pictures!

Five Things Friday: The Little Things

5 Jun

Happy Friday guys! Two posts in one week feels like quite an accomplishment right now with all of the craziness that is my life right now. It’s definitely the little things that get me these days (hence the title of this post). I wanted to share a few random things with you guys to kind of update you on what I’ve been up to lately.

  • I love naan pizza. It is something that I have seen on a few other blogs and since we love pizza (I mean, who doesn’t?) According to Wikipedia, naan is a leavened flatbread that is mainly found in Asia. It can be used in many different ways but the way that most Americans use it is for pizza. Last night we used the garlic version made by Stonefire and topped it with some jarred pizza sauce, fresh tomato slices, fresh mozzarella, and some minced garlic. It was incredible and so easy! We just popped it in the oven at 350 for about 10 mins and it was all done! I highly recommend it for those who are looking for a quick and delicious meal.
I love that my pizza was kind of shaped like a heart

  • I’m also really loving Old Navy lately. I would love to be able to shop at cute little local boutiques but that is just not in the budget these days. I have found so many cute and affordable items there lately. I mean a TON of stuff. I plan on going back this weekend as I may or may not have several amazing coupons burning a hole in my wallet 🙂
That jean jacket and the dress you can't really see underneath are both from old navy and I love them!

  • This Saturday we are looking forward to some pre-wedding festivities for our good friends Kaitlin and Quentin. Kaitlin’s bridal shower is on Saturday and Quentin’s stag party is Saturday evening so we are both heading out to the Litchfield area to celebrate. Their wedding is just about one month before ours! I could not be happier for these two as they are absolutely adorable together.
Aren't they just the cutest ever?! (pic stolen from kait's facebook) :)

  • I would really love to fit in a couple of good workouts this weekend, including hopefully a hike. We went on a hike a couple of weekends ago with our friend Natasha and her sister’s adorable puppy Flynn. It was so nice to be able to get some fresh air and just relax. I could definitely use a little bit of that relaxation right about now.
Clearly the puppy is the cutest in this bunch

  • We are hopefully making our first trip of this year to the Coventry Regional Farmer’s Market! It sounds like this may be the last year for this particular market so I really want to try and go as much as possible. I already saw the list of what most of the vendors will be bringing since the market sends out a weekly newsletter and I am so looking forward to getting some goodies. I’m hoping to pick up some of my favorite Pure Love granola, strawberries, duck eggs, and some pork to stock in our freezer. Wish me luck!

That’s all I have for you today guys! I hope you have a safe and fun weekend!

Late Weekend Recap: Steak, Shopping, and Starbucks

29 Apr

Happy hump day! I regret not being able to finish up this post Monday or yesterday but I do not regret spending that time getting a TON of stuff checked off of my wedding checklist. But, alas, I am back today and looking forward to sharing a few fun aspects of this past weekend.

wedding planning ecard

Friday evening, we had dinner with our good friends Dave, Melissa, Cheyne, and Miko. I’m telling you, there is nothing like a dinner full of fun and laughter to start off a weekend. We went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner and it was my first time dining there. I had the Special Sirloin and Old Bay Lobster combo accompanied by a baked potato. I also enjoyed two fabulous cocktails, the Aussie Rum Punch and the Huckleberry Hooch Moonshine cocktail. The meal was delicious and it definitely satisfied my steak and potatoes craving that I have not been able to shake.

I started off Saturday with a quick Jillian Michaels workout followed by a two mile walk with Dan around the center of town. We were ravenous by the time we were almost home so we stopped at Starbucks where I enjoyed my favorite Passion iced tea and my first ever Spinach, Egg White, and Feta wrap. Bloggers everywhere have raved about this wrap and I would have to agree, it was so yummy!

We spent the rest of the day making an attempt to get some wedding-related tasks completed and we were able to get our registry at Macy’s set up and I also have an idea of what I would like for my flower girls dresses. As a reward for getting things done, we went to Market Grille for a late lunch. This place always seems to be the lunch spot after doing fun wedding things and I’m not complaining! Dan and I both enjoyed their turkey burger with a fried egg added, and I had their Blackberry Moonshine Mojito (made with Onyx moonshine!) as a delightful afternoon cocktail.

I was SO happy that we had some free time on Sunday and we were finally able to help our best friend Alex get some chores done at her new house. It is coming along wonderfully and I am very excited for her housewarming party this coming weekend.

That is all for today folks! Stay tuned, I am expecting my next Stitchfix to arrive today so it’s looking like there is a Fashion Friday post in my future! 🙂 Have a great day!

Thursdays are for… Surveys?

9 Apr

Happy Thursday guys! One more day until the weekend, thank god 🙂 I don’t have a lot of time today since tomorrow is Dan’s birthday and I have a few little things left to take care of before we celebrate tomorrow. Caitlin did a survey on Monday on her blog so I figured I would do it as well since it seemed pretty fun.

Trade It Up Tuesday: Stressed

24 Mar

Happy Tuesday guys! I can’t believe it has been over a week since I last posted but things have been nuts and I never had time to just sit down and write. But I’m back today and hoping to post at least twice this week. Here are a few things I would/wouldn’t trade about life lately:

I would not trade… fitting in as much relaxation time this past weekend as possible. We have been absurdly busy and I have been stressing quite a bit. I carved out a little chunk of time on Saturday to get a much needed pedicure with Alex and boy was it wonderful. We chatted and I got to just sit back and relax for what felt like the first time in forever. I continued that relaxation on Sunday when myself and Dan took a trip to Arrigoni winery with our wonderful friends Cheyne, Miko, and Robbie. We did a wine tasting and then enjoyed some wine and snacks at the winery before heading off to Priam vineyard to do another tasting. We finished up the day by visiting Jenna at work (I definitely partook in some retail therapy) and then having a delicious dinner at Krust. I felt MUCH better ending the weekend than I did at the beginning since I was quite overwhelmed to start.

It was literally a perfect Sunday

This pizza was called “Keelin” and had corned beef, brussels, kale, mozz, dijon aioli, and of course we added an egg

I would trade… the quality of my workouts lately. I have been quite frustrated with this because since we have been so busy, there hasn’t been as much time as I would have liked to be able to get a good workout in. Most of my workouts have been 25 minute Jillian Michael’s sessions which are definitely effective but I feel like I need a more full body workout which gives me that great soreness the next day. This week is a little bit more open as far as our schedule goes so I’m hoping to fit in some more productive workouts.

I would not trade… the delicious meals that we have been enjoying lately! A lot of our plans have involved dinner out with friends so we have had the pleasure of having some great meals. We dined at Bonefish Grill on Saturday evening with Brian and Natasha and it was amazing. I have honestly never had a bad meal there. Also, last Thursday, we attended a fundraiser for March of Dimes at TGI Friday’s and I had the best club sandwich ever. It totally surprised me and I am looking forward to the next time I get to enjoy that sandwich.

I would not trade… how wonderful Dan has been lately. Excuse my mushiness but I have been in super stress mode and he has been right there by my side, helping with whatever I need. Whether it’s wedding planning related or just helping keep the apartment tidy, he has been a total rock for me and I couldn’t be more grateful! I can’t believe our wedding is just over 6 months away. I can’t wait!!!

I love this picture and these two people :)

I love this picture and these two people 🙂

I want to end this post on that happy note since I’m trying my best to keep that positivity and not let the craziness of life get to me. I hope you all are doing the same and have a wonderful week 🙂

Five Things Friday: Crazed

27 Feb

Happy FriYAY guys! I was pretty crazed this week due to the fact that it was my first full week out of training at my new job and although it went VERY well, I was pretty stressed so when I got home most evenings, I just really didn’t feel like writing. I spent most evenings working out and then vegging out on the couch with my DVR and a glass of wine. That being said, I have a few random things to share with you guys.

1. We have enjoyed some fabulous meals this past week. I have to say that my new hours really make it a lot easier to make dinner together and eat at a normal time. Sunday night, we made a quick trip to Whole Foods and picked up some yummy shrimp cocktail and cheese and crackers to enjoy while watching the Oscars. Tuesday evening I was way too tired to even think about dinner so we enjoyed an impromptu date night at Aroy Aroy which is a new-to-us Japanese/Thai restaurant in South Glastonbury. The food was a little pricey but it definitely hit the spot. Last night we had one of my favorites, BLTs with added avocado and an absurd amount of sweet potato fries on the side. I swear I could eat that meal every single night, it was so yummy!

2. I have finally decided to try out Stitchfix and I am very excited. I have been reading so many other blogs and have seen so many success stories with it that I decided that I had to try it for myself. Plus, I’m in need of some new spring clothes and haven’t really been in the mood to shop lately so this seems like the perfect solution! For those who are wondering exactly what Stitchfix is; it’s a styling service in which you fill out a style profile on their website, pay a $20 styling fee and then your styling profile is assigned to a personal stylist who creates a fashion “fix” of five items that are sent to you in the mail based on what you have indicated in your profile. Mine is scheduled to arrive on March 5th so I will definitely be posting about my first experience!

3. We are starting (and hopefully finishing) our save-the-dates this weekend. Finding all of the addresses has been my biggest source of anxiety in the wedding planning process thus far and I will be breathing a huge sigh of relief once we get these things out in the mail. We are also hopefully going to add more items to our registry this weekend too which would be another check off the list. Shout out to my maid of honor Alex and bridesmaid Natasha for picking their gorgeous dresses this past weekend so that is another important thing that is all done which is great.

:)

🙂

4. Jillian Michaels is becoming my new best friend. Although I don’t necessarily agree with her methods on The Biggest Loser, I am absolutely without a doubt loving her workout videos. There are so many to choose from which makes it impossible for me to be bored and I feel like I’m working so many different muscles each day. My favorites right now are the 30 Day Shred, Kickboxing Fastfix, and the newer-to-me Trouble Zones. Basically this means that I love all of the ones which incorporate weights into the workout because I feel that those are what is changing my body the fastest. I am honestly loving the strength I have been feeling within my core and just throughout my body as a whole. I still feel like I have a lot of work to do but these videos are definitely helping me to get where I want to be.

5. My goal of trying out one new recipe each week has been quite successful. This past Sunday I had Pinch of Yum’s Crockpot Queso Chicken Chili cooking all day long and let me tell you, it was amazing. The leftovers the next night were perfect to scoop up with some wheat thins and tortilla chips would have been even better. I’m not sure I’m making anything new this coming week but every single evening is pretty busy so I don’t think I will have much time to cook.

The crockpot is an amazing invention you guys

Marvelous Monday: Wedding Planning

Is it really Monday already? Again? I can’t say I’m happy about that but this weekend was very productive overall so I’m grateful for that. The entirety of the weekend certainly revolved around a lot of wedding stuff and it is crazy to think that the wedding is in less than nine months! Alrighty, lets get on to ALL of the marvelous.

Marvelous is… having our wedding food tasting on Saturday and starting our wedding registry yesterday. I didn’t take any pictures at the tasting (I was a tad bit overwhelmed) but the food was AMAZING and it just cements the fact that I believe we chose the perfect venue for us. We had a great afternoon with Dan’s parents and my parents and a lot of the little details are starting to come together. We started our registry on Sunday at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and it was SO much fun to be able to walk around with the scanner and pick out all kinds of awesome things that we will definitely need.

AMEN to that

Marvelous is… spending Saturday evening at a surprise 50th birthday party for Alex’s mom. We were so happy to be able to celebrate as I feel like Alex’s mom Heidi is like a second mom to me. She is so much fun and I know she had a great time at her party.

Heidi had a little cameo appearance with the band :)

Marvelous is… a fabulously relaxing Sunday evening at home enjoying homemade pizza and watching the Golden Globes. Last Tuesday, we made a trip over to Trader Joe’s and I purchased some of their garlic and herb pizza dough as well as their pizza sauce. We topped the pizza with oodles of cheese and some turkey pepperoni. The dough had so much flavor and it was such an easy and tasty meal, perfect for a Sunday dinner. We both love to watch award shows so this time of year makes an easy excuse to do absolutely nothing on Sunday nights. I thought the Golden Globes were excellent this year and there were certainly a lot of laughs.

A life without pizza isn't real life.

I am completely obsessed with these two. John and Common's speech was my favorite of the night.

This post was short but those were the main highlights of the weekend. I’m hoping this week flies by and I hope you guys have a great week!
