WIAW: Definition of Summer

12 Jul

Happy Wednesday! I feel like I say that at the beginning of every post but a day when I have some time to blog is a happy day πŸ™‚ Today I’m sharing a smorgasbord of different meals and drinks that I have enjoyed so far this summer. Between our fantastic CSA (which I plan to cover in a future post) and farmers market trips, we have definitely been embracing summer foods.

Apps brian and natasha

This past Friday we had Brian and Natasha over for dinner. We enjoyed fresh salsa from Fairweather Acres along with homemade guac and some cheese and crackers. I love me some apps!

Caprese salad

I also made a caprese salad with tomatoes from our CSA, fresh mozz, and basil from our garden

Our dinner included a little bit of everything: grilled chicken, steak, kielbasa, potatoes, squash, broccoli, and the caprese salad

buffalo chicken wrap

Dan had a prior commitment on Monday night so I was on my own for dinner. I made Brittany’s buffalo chicken wrap along with a salad consisting of tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh mozz, and basil. Β

burrito bowl

Dan had another meeting last night so I made myself a burrito bowl with quinoa, chicken, black beans, corn, avocado, green onion, salsa, and plain greek yogurt. It was delish!

That’s all for today folks! I’m ready to tackle the rest of this week and relax as much as possible this weekend πŸ™‚ Have a great rest of the week!

Wordless Wednesday: Birthday & 4th of July Weekend

6 Jul

Happy hump day! I am loving this short work week and am excited that the weekend seems like it is coming up quickly once again. This past weekend we celebrated my birthday as well as America’s birthday πŸ™‚ I took a ton of pictures and figured it would be best to just share them, wordless style. Enjoy!

Man that was a lot of pictures! Believe it or not, even with all of the fun we had, we were still able to get a LOT done on the house. I will be sharing those pictures hopefully later this week if not next week. I can’t wait for today to be over as we are having some friends over for dinner and I’m excited to relax with them πŸ™‚ Have a happy Wednesday!

Turkey Day Weekend Recap

30 Nov

Happy Monday all! I hope you all had the absolute best Thanksgiving! My entire weekend was wonderful and filled with family, friends, lots of food, and so much laughter! Today I figured I would do a little “sentence (or two) per picture” action to share a little bit about my weekend.

Wednesday evening, we went out with some of our closest friends to the Diamond (obviously) for some drinks and shenanigans. I had so much fun catching up with my ladies!

ladies pre turkey day

After all of the wine, a big meal was exactly what was needed on Thanksgiving. I could not wait to dig into that turkey! (*A little side note: We eat three Thanksgiving dinners every year so when I say “big meal”, I mean “three big meals”!

turkey on turkey day

Meal number one was at my Grandma’s house and our contribution to the meal were these Brussels Sprouts Gratin. They were delish!

turkey day grandmas

We took our annual Christmas card picture and this year, Dan was finally able to be in it now that he is officially a Davis (ha!).

Our next meal was at Dan’s parents house with his family and we contributed our famous mashed potatoes to this meal. I don’t have a recipe for this as it is my own but I will definitely share it soon as they are a big hit!

turkey day dans parents

I didn’t take any pictures at our third dinner at my parent’s house since I was definitely loving the wine at that point and really just enjoyed spending time with them and Dan. After dinner we headed to Alex’s house and did a little late night Thanksgiving night/Black Friday shopping. We didn’t last too long and we soon headed back to Alex’s to get some sleep.

On Saturday, we participated in Small Business Saturday and visited the Coventry Regional Farmers Market Holiday Maker’s Market in Willimantic. We started off with an amazing lunch at Cafemantic where I thoroughly enjoyed my roasted beets and smoked salmon salad. It was just what I needed after so much food the previous two days.

The maker’s market itself was adorable and I loved the cozy atmosphere of the space in which it was held.

Later that afternoon, we attended our friend’s Glen and Isabel’s son Levi’s 2nd birthday party which was construction-themed and it was adorable! Isabel is so creative and does such a good job with her parties πŸ™‚

Levis bday cake

We did a ton of decorating for Christmas and I will definitely be sharing pictures of our decor in another post since it’s pretty extensive.

Christmas lights

We also got our tree which I wasn’t planning on this weekend but Dan’s firehouse sold a ton of them and I wanted to make sure we got a good one! I think it looks perfect!

Christmas tree

We ended the weekend with these delicious spinach lasagna rolls from Skinnytaste, some tasty frozen yogurt (with more toppings than yogurt). Dan fell asleep early while I stayed up and watched my poor Patriots lose a tough one. Besides that, it was a perfect end to the perfect Turkey Day weekend!

I hope you all have a great Monday and that your week flies by!

Quick Little Catch Up

5 Aug

Happy Wednesday everyone! There has been quite a bit going on, as per usual so I’m going to keep today’s post short and sweet. It’s just a little bit of catching up on this past weekend and the start of the week as well. As busy as we are, we are lucky to have such great parties and events to attend so I’m not complaining at all!

But seriously, thank you guys!

But seriously, thank you guys!

Friday evening turned out to be a little bit stressful and a nice dinner with Dan and Melissa was just the cure for that. We went to a new-to-us Japanese restaurant in Wethersfield called Edoichi Sushi & Hibachi Steak House. We enjoyed a yummy scorpion bowl and some amazing sushi which was some of the best I had ever had! It was a nice, relaxing evening which was much needed.

Alex’s birthday party was Saturday evening and as always, her party was filled with great food, delicious drinks, and so much fun with some of our best friends. I didn’t really take any pictures because I was really immersing myself in the night and I will take that as a win!

Sunday was spent celebrating our good friend Dan’s birthday. We all carpooled and headed up to the Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, Massachusetts for a Thrill Show which included a variety of different races, demolition derbies, and even some monster trucks. Since we always enjoy the demolition derby at the Hebron Fair, this was a lot of fun and on a much bigger scale than we are used to. We came home exhausted that night but it was well worth it!

I ended up working from home yesterday since we had a meeting with our Reverend early in the evening to finalize some wedding details. I took the opportunity of working from home and made myself a delicious lunch that I normally would not have had time to make on a normal day. I used my new Nutribullet and blended up some spinach, peach slices, apple slices, cucumber, and raspberries for an amazing smoothie and paired it with the rest of the apple and peach slices for a healthy and surprisingly filling lunch. I also took the time to prepare dinner ahead of time, which was Skinnytaste’s Santa Fe Chicken. It was SO easy and I just basically dumped all of the ingredients into the crock pot and cooked on low for 10 hours. We used the results to make chicken tacos as a celebration of Taco Tuesday! It was so delicious and I will definitely be making it again.

I think that Taco Tuesday will be happening more often

Like I said, life has been crazy but for the most part, it has been amazing. I will try to post once more this week but no guarantees! Have a great day!!

Five Things Friday: Can’t Beat it? Join It!

31 Jul

Happy Friday y’all! I hope everyone had a wonderful week, or at least better than mine! Not that it was all that bad and I really have nothing to complain about but yesterday was just awful, including the fact that I spent a total of 2.5 hours in traffic to and from work. But putting my complaints aside, I’m here to share a few random thoughts with you guys.

1. I couldn’t beat the heat, so I joined it! The title of this post is appropriately named because even though it has been very hot and humid the past week or so, I decided that it was a good idea last Thursday evening to take a Bikram yoga class. I felt like I needed a little detox before the weekend and I definitely sweated everything out! It was the most uncomfortable I have felt in a class since my very first one about two years ago. I am glad I finished it and I did feel better once I cooled down a bit.

2. French fries are my current food obsession. I have been enjoying my fair share of them during the past week including an amazing serving of poutine at the Connecticut Wine Festival this past Saturday and some Red Robin fries which we enjoyed at home the other night with our BLTA sandwiches. I think I have been loving them so much because the heat always makes me want carbs like crazy but luckily my workouts have been excellent this week so I’m not feeling too guilty about the carb overload.

3. This weekend is filled with all of the birthday celebrations! I’m SO looking forward to finally getting to see Alex after she has been away a bunch this summer and celebrate her birthday which was this past Monday. On Sunday we are celebrating another good friend’s birthday in Massachusetts which should be so much fun as I’m loving little day trips right now.

These are some gems, let me tell ya :)

4. Who else was completed thrilled that Kaitlin picked Shawn on The Bachelorette? I definitely feel like she picked the guy with whom she had the best overall connection. I think they are the cutest couple and I’m enjoying following her on SnapChat and their adorable Instagram photos too.

SO cute

SO cute

5. I can’t believe tomorrow is August 1st! I know I’m reiterating what everyone else has been saying but this summer is flying by and our wedding is rapidly approaching. We have a lot to do and very little time to do it so I can’t promise you guys that I will be blogging a ton but I will try my best to post at least once a week.

Birthday Weekend Festivities

8 Jul

Happy hump day all! Today I’m doing a recap of my fabulous birthday weekend festivities. In all honesty, I could not have had a better weekend. We fit so much fun stuff in and I wish I could relive it a million times! Even though I had a four day weekend, it flew by so fast and by Sunday night, we were scrambling to do our food prep and cleaning for the week.

I spent a good chunk of the day shopping with my mom which was fun because I picked up a couple of new bathing suits from TargetΒ (this one and this one)Β and she made a final decision on her dress for the wedding πŸ™‚ For dinner that evening, Dan and I went to Krust, which as you guys know is one of my favorite restaurants. We enjoyed a couple of cocktails along with Eggplant Caponata along with a Sunny Side Up pizza topped with brussels sprouts. It was a very relaxing start to a very busy weekend.

This drink was made with Onyx Cranberry moonshine!

I was fortunate enough that Dan also had my birthday off so we slept in a little bit and then continued to lounge while watching some TV. Once we got up, we met up with our friend Kevin and walked around town to do some errands and we got my favorite Double Dark Chocolate iced coffee from Daybreak. Dan and I ran some more errands and prepped some food for the evening and then we spent about an hour at the pool at our apartment complex. I had been dying to take a dip and I was lucky we had that free hour to do so. Once we came back from the pool and got ready, we headed off to my birthday celebration! I had a gathering with a bunch of our friends at Arrigoni Winery in Portland. It was honestly one of the best nights of my entire life. Everyone brought an appetizer to share and we all just hung out, ate, drank wine, and listened to live music. I truly recommend that everyone does something like this for their birthday at some point in time. It was so relaxing and there was so much laughter and silliness had! We ended the night at the Diamond where we enjoyed the most delicious chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream cake from Ben and Jerry’s.

We spent most of Saturday down in Old Lyme at Jenna’s aunt and uncle’s beach house. It was a little gloomy to start the day but the sun eventually came out and it was another relaxing afternoon and evening. We walked over to Lenny’s on the Beach and enjoyed some cocktails. The night ended with an extraordinary fireworks display which was one of the best that I have ever seen. It was a great day and we love spending time with Jenna and Robbie!

Naturally the only picture I took that day was of the fish bowl we drank ;)

We woke up pretty early on Sunday and scrambled to go get our grocery shopping done. After that, we met up with Dan’s boss and his granddaughter and headed up to Boston for the Red Sox game. It was my first game of the year and we had perfect weather for it. The seats were also incredible and it was such a fun ending to the best birthday weekend ever!

Such a perfect day!

I hope you guys have enjoyed my birthday weekend recap. I am planning to post again on Friday (fingers crossed) since I have the day off because my bridal shower is on Saturday and I figured, why not have a long weekend? Although I do plan on spending the majority of the day at the pool so we shall see if I can find the time to write.

Fashion Friday: Stitch Fix # 3

3 Jul

Happy Friday all! I’m in a great mood today because not only do I get to spend my birthday doing some fabulous things, including spending time with my favorite people and drinking lots of wine, but I also get to share my third Stitch Fix order with you guys! I purposely changed the delivery date of this fix (I love how flexible they are) to coincide with my birthday, mainly so I could justify a purchase as my birthday gift to myself πŸ™‚

Such a good sight when I come home from work!

Such a good sight when I come home from work!

Here is an explanation in case you haven’t heard of Stitch Fix before: Stitch Fix is an online personal styling service. You pay a $20 styling fee up front and then you fill out an extensive styling profile which is sent over to a stylist who picks out five items (clothing, jewelry, scarves, accessories) which fit the personalized profile you have filled out. The items are sent to you and you try them on, with three days to decide on what you want. If you decide to keep anything, the $20 styling fee goes toward your purchase. If you purchase all five items, then you receive 25% off your entire order!

Taking a peek!

Taking a peek!

Item # 1: C.Luce Pyra Square Eyelet Dress ($84)

Verdict: Returned. In my comments to my stylist for this fix, I requested a white or ivory dress to potentially wear to my bridal shower which is next weekend (WHOA). I was very happy that my stylist obliged but to be honest, I just was not a fan of the way that this dress fit me. I don’t think I have ever tried anything on that was this type of eyelet material and I just wasn’t a fan. I think it looks good in the picture but I just was not very comfortable in it.

Item # 2: Pixley Messi Lattice Neckline Knit Top ($68)

Verdict: Returned. I keep going back and forth on this top. It fits really well and would be absolutely perfect for a night out, but the price is extremely high for a top and I keep thinking that I could easily go to Old Navy or Target and buy a few tops for that amount of money. This was Dan’s overall favorite but he agreed that the price was just too high.

Item # 3: 19 Cooper Marlow Crochet Back Detail Top ($48)

Verdict: Kept. As soon as I saw this top, I loved the color and the “party in the back” aspect of it. The first time I tried it on, I basically wrote it off because I wasn’t a huge fan of the super loose fit but when I tried it on again to take the picture, it started to grow on me. It really is a fun shirt and would also be great for a night out.

Item # 4: Dear John Lillie Cuffed Short ($58)

Verdict: Returned. I really wanted to like these shorts and I am in dire need of a good pair of shorts. However, I just could not get over the color as I am really not a big fan of black denim. I definitely think that they looked great on but I don’t see myself wearing them very often mainly because of the color.

Item # 5: Level 99 Esme Straight Leg Jean ($98)

Verdict: Undecided. As soon as I saw these, I was almost hesitant to try them on because I knew they would fit like a glove and that I would love them. I was totally right. My stylist, Harley, was right on point and these jeans fit perfectly and they are petite so the length was also on point. The price, however, was not on point. I have never even come close to spending that much on a pair of jeans but I have also never even tried on a pair which fit this well and I’m completely torn. I’m going to try them on again although I’m leaning towards sending them back and trying to find a pair elsewhere for cheaper.

This fix was a slight disappointment based on the success of my previous fixes, especially since I mentioned I was really into maxi dresses and maxi skirts and I didn’t get any of those. I’m hoping that my next fix will work out better and I did appreciate the two fun tops which I did ask for.

I hope you guys have enjoyed and also that you have a fabulous, fun and safe Fourth of July!
