Trade It Up Tuesday: Stressed

24 Mar

Happy Tuesday guys! I can’t believe it has been over a week since I last posted but things have been nuts and I never had time to just sit down and write. But I’m back today and hoping to post at least twice this week. Here are a few things I would/wouldn’t trade about life lately:

I would not trade… fitting in as much relaxation time this past weekend as possible. We have been absurdly busy and I have been stressing quite a bit. I carved out a little chunk of time on Saturday to get a much needed pedicure with Alex and boy was it wonderful. We chatted and I got to just sit back and relax for what felt like the first time in forever. I continued that relaxation on Sunday when myself and Dan took a trip to Arrigoni winery with our wonderful friends Cheyne, Miko, and Robbie. We did a wine tasting and then enjoyed some wine and snacks at the winery before heading off to Priam vineyard to do another tasting. We finished up the day by visiting Jenna at work (I definitely partook in some retail therapy) and then having a delicious dinner at Krust. I felt MUCH better ending the weekend than I did at the beginning since I was quite overwhelmed to start.

It was literally a perfect Sunday

I would trade… the quality of my workouts lately. I have been quite frustrated with this because since we have been so busy, there hasn’t been as much time as I would have liked to be able to get a good workout in. Most of my workouts have been 25 minute Jillian Michael’s sessions which are definitely effective but I feel like I need a more full body workout which gives me that great soreness the next day. This week is a little bit more open as far as our schedule goes so I’m hoping to fit in some more productive workouts.

I would not trade… the delicious meals that we have been enjoying lately! A lot of our plans have involved dinner out with friends so we have had the pleasure of having some great meals. We dined at Bonefish Grill on Saturday evening with Brian and Natasha and it was amazing. I have honestly never had a bad meal there. Also, last Thursday, we attended a fundraiser for March of Dimes at TGI Friday’s and I had the best club sandwich ever. It totally surprised me and I am looking forward to the next time I get to enjoy that sandwich.

I would not trade… how wonderful Dan has been lately. Excuse my mushiness but I have been in super stress mode and he has been right there by my side, helping with whatever I need. Whether it’s wedding planning related or just helping keep the apartment tidy, he has been a total rock for me and I couldn’t be more grateful! I can’t believe our wedding is just over 6 months away. I can’t wait!!!

I love this picture and these two people :)

I want to end this post on that happy note since I’m trying my best to keep that positivity and not let the craziness of life get to me. I hope you all are doing the same and have a wonderful week 🙂

Marvelous Monday: Valentine’s Day Weekend

16 Feb

Happy Monday! Wow, that weekend felt like it went by in quite a blur! It was wonderful and marvelous and ALL of the good things so I’m very excited to share it with you.

Marvelous is… waking up on Friday morning to snuggles from our new kitty Bella. We rescued her from a friend of a friend of a friend (super confusing) and her owner had passed away so Jenna asked if we wanted to take her and of course we couldn’t say no! She is such a sweetheart and is already starting to fit right in.

Marvelous is… a delicious dinner on Friday night at Bonefish Grill. I’ve had a coupon for free Bang Bang Shrimp for quite a while as well as a gift card so I figured we would take advantage of that and have a fancy but frugal Friday night dinner. We both had their Valentine’s weekend fixed price meal and enjoyed salads, filet mignon & lobster tail as well as a chocolate crème brulee for dessert. It was all SO yummy and we have honestly never had a bad meal there.

There is literally nothing like this in the world. I swear.

I was craving steak like no other so this was an obvious choice. Oh and there was truffle butter on the side so... insane.

My first crème brulee and certainly not my last.

Marvelous is… a Valentine’s Day filled with wine, cheese, and more wine. In discussing what we wanted to do for our Valentine’s day, Dan really had no preference and left it up to me so I decided that we would head out to the Litchfield area to our favorite vineyards and spend the day there not worrying about anything. We went to Haight Brown, Sunset Meadows, and Connecticut Valley Winery. It was so relaxing and absolutely perfect to spend an uninterrupted day together.

Can every Saturday involve my favorite Honey Nut Apple wine?

I am not ashamed to admit that I ate probably 75% of this. No shame whatsoever.

Marvelous is… basically beating the worst of the snow on our way home. We headed home just as the snow was really picking up so the drive wasn’t too bad at all. We picked up Five Guys burgers and fries on the way home (my dinner of choice) and spent the evening in front of the TV catching up on our shows. It was the perfect end to my dream Saturday 🙂

This burger hit the spot after ALL the wine.

This made me laugh so hard!

I hope you all had an equally amazing Valentine’s day weekend! Here is to hoping this week goes by fast so another wonderful weekend can happen 🙂

WIAW: Bonefish Grill

20 Aug

I can’t believe I’m posting two days in a row but I had to share with you guys the amazing dinner that Dan and I had at Bonefish Grill last night. We had a gift card and a coupon to use and we both LOVE Bonefish Grill so we decided to have a date night.

There was a 20 minute wait when we arrived but once we were seated, the service was wonderful. Our waitress brought out some amazing bread with olive oil and pesto to start. I only had one piece of the bread since I knew it would fill me up.

So simple but so delish

We ordered drinks next and Dan went with his old standby, Corona, while I wanted to try something new. On the recommendation of our waitress, I decided on the Fresh Watermelon Icicle Aphrodisiac martini which included hand-muddled watermelon, sour mix, and house-made cucumber vodka infusion. The best word that I can use to describe this martini is refreshing. It was perfect for a warm summer evening and it went down way too easily which is the sign of a great drink.

Watermelon everything please!

Watermelon everything please!

Before our arrival, we knew that we were going to have the Bang Bang shrimp as our appetizer. As you guys have seen, I made the healthier version of this dish a couple of weeks ago, but nothing can ever compare to the real thing. I don’t know how they do it, but this is probably the best style of shrimp that I have ever had.

I could have eaten five of these.

I could have eaten five of these.

It was extremely difficult to choose an entrée because there were so many great choices on the menu. I decided to go with one of the specials, Ahi Tuna Bellaire. This was a sizeable ahi tuna steak covered with sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, and a lemon basil sauce. This obviously caught my eye because of the goat cheese and I can honestly say that I would have never thought to pair fish and goat cheese. It was melt in my mouth delicious and I will definitely be ordering ahi tuna more often. I also had a side of the vegetable of the day (squash) and mashed potatoes, of which I only had a little bit because I got full quickly. I had finished my martini rather quickly so I enjoyed a glass of Riesling with my dinner which complemented the food very well.

The portion sizes were perfect. Also, look at that goat cheese 😉

Dan chose the Lobster Grilled Cheese and boy I am SO glad he did. This isn’t something I would order myself since I am trying to stay on the healthier side of things these days but I was more than happy to try it. It was rich and filled to the brim with lobster and melty cheese. He had mixed greens on the side along with clam chowder which was also delicious.

Cheesy lobster amazingness

I am so glad we were able to visit Bonefish Grill and try so many things and I can’t wait to return again. The food is always great and the service had been superb every time we have been there.

I hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

WIAW: My Favorite Chains

9 Apr
Happy Hump Day! First off, I would like to start by saying congrats to my UConn Huskies Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams on winning the National Championship! That is basically the reason why you didn’t hear from me the past two days. I went out to celebrate the game with Dan and Alex and it was so much FUN! Anyone that knows me knows that I love my Huskies (UConn is where I went to college) and I love watching the games and seeing them win, especially this year’s teams. Anyways, today I figured I would write about something that I have seen a few other bloggers write about and that is my favorite chain restaurants. Now I know that chain restaurants are kind of taboo in the foodie world but I am a firm believer that not all chains are gross and unhealthy. There are always menu gems that can be found anywhere if you look hard enough.
This is a true story.

This is a true story.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love Five Guys. In the past few years, I have become a big lover of cheeseburgers and this place is at the top of my list for a fast food burger. I don’t go here too often but when I do, it is definitely a special treat. I usually get a Little Cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. I always tell myself that I won’t get fries but as soon as I walk in the door and smell them, I can’t resist. The one thing I love about Five Guys is how fresh, local, and plentiful their ingredients are, which is extremely rare for a fast food restaurant. I am a big lover of as many toppings as possible on my sandwiches and burgers (especially healthy toppings) and this place definitely does that for me.
Got this from google :)

Got this from google 🙂

Every few weeks or so I find myself with a huge craving for Mexican food and I just have to have it. Now I know that I could easily replicate this food at home but sometimes I want to forgo that effort and be able to spend more time on the couch catching up on my DVR. Moe’s is a great example of a fast food restaurant in which it is totally possible to get a healthy and delicious meal at a decent price. I used to get a burrito every single time, but now that I am trying to be more health conscious I have been getting a burrito bowl and just filling it to the max with all kinds of veggies. I usually get pulled pork, a little bit of rice, black beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, black olives, corn salsa, guacamole, and cheese. This is a good-sized lunch/dinner that keeps me full for hours.
I recently rediscovered Ruby Tuesday on a trip to a mall in our area with my friend Natasha. The mall didn’t really have any other sit down options so we decided to go there and I am so glad we did. I hadn’t really been there since back in the days of back to school shopping with my mom and that was ALWAYS where we went for dinner. I have a soft spot for their salad bar and I was pleased to find that their menu had become much healthier than I had remembered. I got the fish tacos with the salad bar and this was AMAZING. I had never had fish tacos before because I can’t stand cilantro but Natasha just told me to order them without the fresh cilantro (duh!). I would definitely come back here since there were several other menu items that I wanted to try and their salad bar was so filling and delicious.
Home of an awesome salad bar!

Home of an awesome salad bar!

Now this chain is one that I have only been to twice but I am already planning another trip since everything was so wonderful the first two times. The Bang Bang shrimp are probably one of my top five favorite foods of all time. There aren’t even words to really describe how amazing they are. I suggest that you go get some now! 🙂 As far as entrees go, I have tried the sea scallops & shrimp with the mango salsa as my sauce and this was so fresh and delicious. Last time we went I got the crab cakes which were also wonderful and they didn’t have too much filling like most crab cakes usually do. Their drink menu is also extensive and I always have to try something new when I go.
