Five Things Friday: Summer Lovin’

23 Jun

Happy happy Friday! I feel like this week dragged on a bit but that might be because we have very few plans this weekend and I’m so pumped to just relax with the hubby! It was definitely a busy week and I have a huge piled of unfolded laundry calling my name this evening (ugh). I figured I would share five random thoughts from the past week (or two).

  • We signed up for our first CSA with Fair Weather Acres farm and our first pickup was this past Sunday. We received so many fresh and delicious veggies which allowed us to be a bit more creative with our cooking this week. Our box included: 2 lbs of spinach, 1 head of lettuce, 1 quart of strawberries, 1 bunch of swiss chard, 1 bunch of radishes, 1 head of broccoli, garlic scapes, and bok choy. I loved everything included but I think my favorite were the strawberries and the garlic scapes. We made two new recipes with some of the veggies we received, a garlic scape and spinach frittata as well as swiss chard and garlic scape pasta. Both were yummy!

  • My cousin Daniel graduated from high school on Tuesday and we were fortunate enough to be able to attend. He gave a speech during the ceremony which obviously had everyone in our family in tears. We went out for a wonderful dinner at Bertucci’s after too. It was a great evening!

  • Last Saturday went down as one of the top five days of this year for me so far. Natasha, Jenna, and I attended our friend Miko’s bridal shower which was SO much fun. We were nonstop laughing the entire time due to the very creative and hilarious games that her bridal party had planned. After the shower, Jenna and I met up with the boys in Granby at Lost Acres Vineyard where we enjoyed some wine and a fantastic cheese plate. After that we ventured over to Brignole Vineyards, also in Granby, and had a really fun wine tasting (the guy giving our tasting was hilarious) and some fabulous sangria. All of that wine meant for an early evening catnap but we managed to rally and make it out for our friend Kevin’s birthday. It was truly an amazing day!

  • Salads have been my jam lately. Ever since returning from our cruise, I have been craving salads and fresh veggies ALL the time. I have particularly been enjoying my current lunch salad which includes strawberries and goat cheese which is such a fantastic combo. If you haven’t tried it, you should!

  • Father’s Day was filled with so much delicious food and lots of sunshine. We treated my Dad to lobster rolls at Jessica’s Garden in Marlborough (highly recommend!) and then we visited Dan’s parents for dinner at their new lake house in Ashford. It was a wonderful end to a great weekend!

Life has been pretty great lately but I am excited to have very few plans on the radar this weekend. There is a bottle of Rosé and some grilling on the agenda and that’s the way I like my summer weekends!

MIMM: Back in Action!

27 Oct

Happy Monday! I’m actually not too displeased that it’s Monday since I was feeling under the weather pretty much all of last week. I had an awful sore throat and a fever a couple of nights but I finally started to feel better on Friday. This is why I didn’t post anything last week since every moment not spent at work was spent on the couch with a blanket and a cup of tea. I’m excited to share with you guys a few marvelous things that happened this weekend 🙂

Marvelous is… a low key Friday night spent partially at home and then at the Diamond for a glass of wine. I was feeling pretty well but knew a dinner at home all cozy on the couch would be better than a crazy night out. A little later in the evening, we decided to go out for a drink with a few of our friends and it was the perfect end to a relaxing evening.

Marvelous is… saying yes to the dress on Saturday! I went to David’s Bridal with my aunt, grandma, Dan’s mom and sister, Alex, Melissa, Carlee, Jenna, and Natasha. It was my third time trying on dresses there and the third time was definitely the charm! I ended up picking a dress that was unlike anything on my original list of favorites but it is so beautiful and I can’t wait for my wedding day to be able to wear it again! After dress shopping, we all went out for lunch at Market Grille in Manchester, where I enjoyed a delicious cobb salad with lobster and a blackberry moonshine mojito made with Ripe juice and Onyx moonshine which was SO good that I will definitely be ordering mojitos more often.

Marvelous is… making it to the farmers market for the last Sunday of the season. I ended up going by myself but it was great to be able to walk around (although it was chilly) and browse through all of the vendors. I purchased some red onions, Adirondack red potatoes (they are pink inside!), and kale and I only spent $6 total which was the best part.

Marvelous is… a Sunday afternoon and evening spent at home with Dan. We were both tired and there were at least five shows that we needed to watch on our DVR so we spent a few hours on the couch just relaxing. We did get off of our lazy butts to make Caitlin’s Meatball Bake although I did cheat a little and used turkey meatballs since Dan is a huge fan of those. This meal was so hearty and filling and it was perfect for a chilly Sunday dinner. Thank you Cait!

Alrighty, time to get ready for work! I hope you all have a fabulous Monday!

Marvelous Monday: Excitement!

6 Oct

Oh well, Monday is here again! But at least I have a few marvelous things to tell you about this past weekend. It was short but sweet since it was a “working Saturday” but I was able to fit in more fun stuff during what was left of the weekend than I normally do.

Marvelous is… trying two new-to-me restaurants this weekend! I have been craving pizza forever so on Friday night we used a restaurant.com gift certificate for Lena’s First and Last Pizzeria in Hartford. We decided on the margherita pizza (with bacon added of course) which was very basic but it was SO delicious. I enjoyed how simple the pizza was because it made it easier to enjoy the freshness of the ingredients such as the huge slices of tomato. The pizza also lasted us for two nights of dinners so that was perfect also.

The other restaurant I was finally able to try was Market Grille in Manchester! A few of the girls and myself stopped in for lunch after some wedding dress browsing on Sunday afternoon. I had been menu-stalking the place for months so I had my heart set on the “everything but the kitchen sink” chopped salad which definitely hit the spot. I’m admittedly often too lazy to throw together a salad with that many amazing components so I’m always happy to order one when I’m out to eat. We also split the dark chocolate tiramisu and the chocolate chip cookies for dessert which were obviously yummy too.

Marvelous is… spending Saturday night hanging out at our apartment with Robbie, Jenna and Alex. I got out of work and was in need of a night of relaxation and that is exactly what I got 🙂 We watched part of the movie Clueless (no shame – I love that movie) and played a few rounds of Scene-It on the Xbox 360. It was a great night of doing basically nothing with some of my favorite people.

Marvelous is… how freaking excited I am starting to get about our wedding! I have obviously been excited this whole time but now that it is almost exactly a year away, I can’t stop thinking about planning and all of the fun stuff that will be coming up. Sunday afternoon was spent with a couple of my girls browsing wedding dresses to basically figure out the styles that I like so that I’m not completely stressed when I do my big official outing with my family and my girls. It was very successful and the rest of the afternoon/evening was spent excitedly discussing other little details about the big day. I can’t wait!

I'm not really like this I promise

That is all for this Monday and I hope that everyone has a wonderful start to the week!

WIAW- Rooftop 120

19 Mar

I know I’m a little late on this review but I knew it was perfect for a “What I Ate Wednesday” post. Last Thursday evening, I dined at Rooftop 120 in Glastonbury’s Eric Town Square with one of my closest friends, Carlee. We were celebrating her new job at the company where I work, The Hartford. I usually have a few regular places in town where we go for dinner but I figured a new job called for a fancy (and new-to-me) place.

The restaurant wasn’t too busy for a Thursday evening and we settled into two seats at the bar. There was live music playing (I have no idea who it was- sorry!) and it was the perfect setting for a celebration. We knew that drinks were definitely in order so we looked over the drink menu (SO many great options) and made our decisions. I decided on a Black Raspberry flavored sparkler which was basically Prosecco mixed with black raspberry puree. There were fresh raspberries on the bottom too!

Carlee had a tougher time deciding and our bartender Jenna recommended the White Grape Moscato martini which was Skyy Moscato Grape vodka mixed with white cranberry juice. This was also garnished with fresh grapes. The drinks were both so refreshing and delicious and I can’t wait to go back to try the MANY other drink options.

Carlee and I had both looked at the menu online prior to our arrival so our choices for food were pretty quick. I chose to go with a spinach salad and I added ahi tuna to that. I also got a side of truffle fries because I have been OBSESSED with all things truffle lately. Carlee (who is a self-proclaimed picky eater) got the margarita flatbread. My salad included local goat cheese, roasted red peppers, spinach, ahi tuna, and balsamic vinaigrette. It was SO tasty and the perfect portion for my level of hunger. This was only my second experience with ahi tuna and it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The truffle fries were good, although they were nothing different from the truffle fries that I always get when I go to Plan B (which happens to be located just below Rooftop!). Carlee said that she enjoyed her flatbread as well and that the garlic flavor definitely stood out and made it different from other flatbreads she has had.

Our waitress (she was also the bartender) Jenna was so helpful and charismatic. We were unsure if we were going to get dessert at that point but she had us sold when she mentioned the deep-friend double-stuffed Oreos! These were definitely the highlight of the evening. I look forward to them every year at the local Big E state fair in Springfield, Mass and this was just such a special treat. They were perfectly fried and lightly covered with powdered sugar with a side of milk to dip them in (and you better believe I did just that!). This was Carlee’s first experience with deep-fried Oreos and she was in awe of how amazing they were.

BEST part of the meal! So amazing!

I would definitely recommend Rooftop 120 to anyone who is looking for a great cocktail in a fun setting. While the meal was a little pricey for a weekly kind of meal, it is definitely somewhere I can see myself going for a special occasion or when I’m looking for a place to go for drinks with the girls.
